The location of an annual Central Coast car show featuring luxury Italian sports cars such as Ferraris and Lamborghinis remains a mystery after taking up new ownership. The Concorso Italian, an event described as the Super Bowl for Italian automobile enthusiasts, underwent new ownership two weeks ago and is still looking for a home for the event scheduled for August.
The new ownership group is led by Tom McDowell, who said he was unhappy with last year’s event location at the Marina Airport and that he is looking for vindication this time around. Pacific Grove representatives said their town is the number one choice of the Concorso Italiano and is looking at the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links as the ideal location for the Italian cars.
Pacific Grove officials said the Coastal Commission has already said they would give an exemption for the event, but the site still needs to be approved by the California Environmental Quality Act.
The event planner’s decision could prevent the Concorso Italiano from making its home in Pacific Grove this year but the city would remain an option for 2010 and beyond. Full report here.
