Entertainment value high, the prancing horse brand introduced two new variations on the 599 GTB Fiorano theme in Geneva, the first being the 599 HGTE, short for Handling GT Evoluzione.

Yes, most would think the regular 599 would handle fairly well as it is, but the Handling GTE Package will make the car that much better according to Ferrari’s press release.

The second car in the Geneva introduction is the much anticipated 599XX, what Ferrari refers to as its rolling “laboratorio tecnologico.” Created for “a select group of clients,” this technological laboratory “incorporates the most advanced technologies resulting from Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research.

The location of an annual Central Coast car show featuring luxury Italian sports cars such as Ferraris and Lamborghinis remains a mystery after taking up new ownership. The Concorso Italian, an event described as the Super Bowl for Italian automobile enthusiasts, underwent new ownership two weeks ago and is still looking for a home for the event scheduled for August.

The new ownership group is led by Tom McDowell, who said he was unhappy with last year’s event location at the Marina Airport and that he is looking for vindication this time around. Pacific Grove representatives said their town is the number one choice of the Concorso Italiano and is looking at the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Links as the ideal location for the Italian cars.

This is the vehicle being billed as one which could rescue the British car industry from the brink of disaster. Vauxhall bosses hope their £20,000 Ampera will represent the coming of age for electric cars and rescue thousands of jobs.

A £1 overnight mains charge is enough to take the Ampera 40 miles on battery power alone. It can travel a further 260 miles by using a petrol-driven generator tucked under the bonnet.

Vauxhall is planning to produce the car at its threatened Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, which employs 5,000. Staff would switch from a two-shift four-day week to three full shifts five days a week.
