BMW Middle East has confirmed that it will bring hybrid cars to the region this year. It follows revelations that both Mercedes and Lexus are also about to introduced hybrid versions of its two luxury cars, the S Class and LS saloon.

Having launched several initiatives to ease its ecological footprint across the globe, the Bavarian manufacturer has announced that it will be employing some of its green ideas in their region. They aim to be an influential driver for environmental change and also protect the future of our company by offering innovative technologies that are in line with strict environmental standards.

It’s first hybrid for their markets will be their ‘Car of the Year’ title-winner, the X6 SUV, and will be introduced later this year. The X6 ‘ActiveHybrid’ will employ improved aerodynamics and light-weight construction as well as a hybrid eight-cylinder unit, that is claimed to use 20% less fuel.

They are proud to be rolling out their next stage of EfficientDynamics with our X6 ActiveHybrid in 2009 followed by a 7 Series ActiveHybrid in 2010. Both these models will integrate the latest electric and petrol engine technologies, which will provide efficient power trains and further reduce emissions source
